Constraints and Political Developments in Afghanistan: 2001-2008
Constraints and Political Developments in Afghanistan: 2001-2008 Afghanistan is located at the heart of Central Asia which has been witnessing an on going devastating war for the past 30 years. It is one of the poorest and most underdeveloped countries in the region. Afghanistan played the role of buffer zone for two ex-major powers: USSR and UK, as it has played a very important role in the geopolitics of its region. Afghanistan is a fragile state and weak performer because of strong foreign interventions and domestic ethnic conflicts. It is a country of nearly 30 million people. The major ethnic group is Pashtun who are weary of conflict and subject to grinding poverty in an often harsh environment. The so called developments after the invasion of the US shows little or no progress achieved in the past 8 years. As Afghanistan is trying hard to recover politically, economically, and socially, the corruption on ministerial levels drug mafia, the cultural factors, the rapid rise of Taliban, the internal and external spoilers, and lack of education are direct devastating factors constraining developmental programs. There were also reports about the NGO’s working inside Afghanistan under the name of humanitarian work are accused of corruption and did nothing in improving the life Afghans. In addition, these NOG’s created jobs for themselves only. Having in mind that, in the past few years the so called US offence against the innocent civilians have rapidly increased in the rise of Taliban. And now against the wishes of each Afghan the situation seems to be getting worse. Many educated Afghans resigned from their posts and returned to their second homes because of the current security and other early mentioned issues. Now Kerzai is governing the current Afghan Mafia government with the help of few un-wanted ministers and ambassadors . I believe the Canadian government should not listen to bunch of one sided Afghans who resides in Canada for years and they have no idea of the ground realities. If we truly put simple research methods in making our foreign policy towards Afghanistan, we will be better off, rather than making our policies based on falls intelligence, past and copying others policies or listing to current Afghan authorities. As Afghanistan needs to heal, Canada’s humanitarian involvement, and future investment in educational and poverty irradiation.
